“Welcome Home”, by Coheed and Cambria, is actually about the Writing Writer, possibly in this case group leader Claudio Sanchez himself. The song talks about a man seeking vengeance on a woman who has cheated on him. Claudio himself stated on the Live At The Hammerstein Ballroom DVD that the song is basically about a man seeking vengeance on this lying whore and in his own subconscious beats this woman and throws her into her own grave. Coheed and Cambria got a huge boost when this song (along with their track “Ten Speed”), were featured in the video game Rock Band. In our interview with their guitarist Travis Stever, he said: “That stuff’s incredible what it does for a band. It spreads the name, it made it so people that would have probably not given us the chance gave us the chance, they listened to it. They were curious and they finally got a chance to listen. We made a lot of fans that way, and we’ve made a lot of fans through the Internet in general, with being able to be a part of certain things. It’s crazy how it can affect the band in a bad way, but at the same time be so good for a band. Records are not going to sell anymore. Think about the exposure that you’ve gotten through the InterWeb. So it’s funny, it’s definitely a Catch 22.”

Shows to Check Out in New York This Weekend (November 23-25, 2018)
Tumblr media
Thanksgiving is over. If you’ve spent all the time with your family and friends you can stand and you’ve had enough of the hoards of people out holiday shopping, perhaps it’s time for a break. Why not celebrate the long holiday weekend by braving the cold and heading out to a live show?
There is a lot going on in the New York area this weekend. Bob Dylan kicks off a seven-night run of shows in the city.  Music icons Art Garfunkel, Arlo Guthrie, Taylor Dayne and Patty Smyth are playing special shows. There are punk and metal shows from The Menzingers, Death From Above, Halestorm and Shilpa Ray. And that’s just the tip of the iceberg.
Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves live music. That’s why we’ve compiled as list of some of this weekend’s hottest shows. Here are eight shows we know will be worth checking out.
1.       Bob Dylan: Legendary folk rocker Bob Dylan released the latest installment of his ‘Bootleg Series’ this month, which includes even more tracks recorded during the ‘Blood on the Tracks’ studio sessions. In support, Dylan embarked on a fall tour, which begins winding down this weekend with seven shows in New York starting tonight and lasting over the next week and a half. (Friday – December 1, Beacon Theatre)
2.       The Menzingers: Punk rockers The Menzingers released two new singles, “Toy Soldiers” and “The Freaks” earlier this year, leading speculation that there could be more new music on the way. The band will be wrapping up its current fall tour this weekend, kicking things off with a show in Brooklyn tonight. Tiny Moving Parts and Daddy Issues open the show. (Friday, Brooklyn Steel)
3.       Death From Above: It has been 16 years since dance rockers Death From Above released their debut EP, ‘Heads Up.’ The Canadian duo have been on tour playing the EP in full. Said tour wraps up this weekend with three east coast shows, starting with Brooklyn tonight. (Friday, Elsewhere)
4.       Art Garfunkel: One half of the duo Simon & Garfunkel, Art Garfunkel has been delighting fans for more than five decades with some of the most iconic songs ever written. Last year, the singer published an autobiography, ‘What Is It All But Luminous.’ Garfunkel plays three intimate shows in the New York / Long Island area this weekend, all of which will most likely focus on his many hits. (Friday, Suffolk Theatre; Sunday & Monday, City Winery)
5.       Arlo Guthrie: In what has become an annual tradition, Arlo Guthrie plays his yearly Thanksgiving concert at Carnegie Hall this weekend. This could be the last time however, as he told Billboard earlier this week that he might be ending it next year. (Saturday, Carnegie Hall)
6.       Halestorm / In This Moment / New Years Day: Three kick-butt female-fronted bands on one stage? Yes please! Halestorm headlines this metal-infused girl power tour, having just released their new album, ‘Vicious,’ this past July. In This Moment and New Years Day, who are both working on new albums, act as main support. (Saturday, Hammerstein Ballroom)
7.       Taylor Dayne & Patty Smyth and Scandal: If metal is not your cup of tea, two of the 1980’s hottest female icons have also joined forces for a fall tour. Pop singer Taylor Dayne and rocker Patty Smyth and Scandel wrap things up this weekend in Staten Island. If you can’t make this show, Dayne kicks off a special Christmas tour on Long Island next week with Peabo Bryson, John Secada and Deniece Williams. (Saturday, St. George Theatre)
8.       Shilpa Ray: A staple of the New York underground scene, Shilpa Ray has been compared to early punk legends like Blondie and Patti Smith. She plays a special Thanksgiving show this weekend benefiting the Mount Sinai SAVI Program. Other artists on the bill include NO ICE, Crazy Pills, Painted Zeroes and Joanna Sternberg. (Sunday, Mercury Lounge)
Spend your Thanksgiving weekend rocking out to some great live music. Check out the some of the shows above or any of the smaller shows that make the New York music scene so unique and let us know what live shows you’re excited for in the comments below.

Rock Shows to Check out in New York This Weekend (January 12-14, 2018)
Tumblr media
There is nothing like seeing live music in New York. The “city that never sleeps” not only sees huge artists on national tours coming through on a weekly basis, but has one of the most vibrant local music scenes in the country. Such is the reason to check out some live music in New York this weekend.
Just look at all the shows happening in New York this weekend. The Killers and Walk the Moon will both be in town promoting their latest albums. The APAP Conference will be bringing a diverse amount of talent from all over the world to NYC this weekend. Say Anything will be celebrating the 10th anniversary of ‘In Defense of the Genre.’ And that’s only the start of it.
Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves live music. That’s why we’ve once again been searching for the best live shows happening in New York this weekend. Here are eight that we think will be worth checking out.
1.       The Killers: The Killers released their latest album, ‘Wonderful Wonderful,’ this past September, which became their first album to hit number one on the Billboard 200 chart. Yielding strong singles like “The Man” and “Run for Cover,” the new album is sure to be a centerpiece of the show, though we all know you want to hear the classics like “Mr. Brightside.” The band will be joined by up-and-comer Alex Cameron, who released his sophomore album, ‘Forced Witness,’ last year. (Friday, Madison Square Garden)
2.       Chevonne and the Fuzz: Getting her start as a back-up singer for Lady Gaga and honing her solo chops on ‘The Voice,’ Chevonne’s powerful vocals and passionate delivery are well worth checking out. Catch her with her band tonight for what they’re calling a “very special show.” (Friday, Rockwood Music Hall Stage 1)
3.       Plain White T’s: Part of the APAP│NYC Conference (Association for Performing Arts Professionals) that starts this weekend, Plain White T’s, VoicePlay, Eric Hutchinson, Guitar Army and Cyrille Aimee will be playing a brunch showcase on Saturday. These are a very diverse group of artists, which should make for a great show. Bonus, you’ll get to hear “Hey There Delilah” one more time. (Saturday, B.B. King Blues Club)
4.       Streetlight Manifesto: Streetlight Manifesto and Bandits of the Acoustic Revolution frontman Tomas Kalnoky will be bringing his two bands together for a show like you’ve never seen before. Though there isn’t much information about it, it sounds like this could be Streetlight Manifesto playing ska with an orchestra behind them, which sounds pretty cool. (Saturday, Beacon Theatre)
5.       Walk the Moon: Walk the Moon released their third album, ‘What If Nothing,’ this past November and are currently touring behind it on the “Press Restart” tour. Lead single “One Foot” has been all over alternative radio for several months, rivaling “Shut Up and Dance” as their most fun and energetic song. The tour hits New York this weekend with Company of Thieves as main support. (Saturday, Hammerstein Ballroom)
6.       Say Anything: Say Anything are currently in the middle of celebrating the 10th anniversary of their break-through album, ‘In Defense of the Genre,’ setting out on a tour where they played their first three albums in their entireties. Now the band is back for a second leg, this time coming for the east coast. Catch the songs that started it all, and maybe some new ones thrown in for good measure. Tim Kashir of Cursive and Backwards Dancer will open the show. (Sunday, Irving Plaza)
7.       Cherry Poppin’ Daddies: It’s been more than 20 years since Cherry Poppin’ Daddies released their breakthrough album ‘Zoot Suit Riot.’ Relive the swing revival this weekend when the band hits New York for a one-off show that is sure to have you dancing in the aisles.  (Sunday, Iridium Jazz Club)
8.       Cracker & Camper Van Beethoven: Singer David Lowery has joined his two bands together for a co-headlining tour this winter. The tour makes a stop in New York this weekend before heading to Georgia for their collaborative Camp-In Festival. (Sunday, Highline Ballroom)
New York is always filled with amazing live shows and this weekend is no exception. These are some of the shows we think will be worth spending your hard earned money on. Check these out these or any of the other amazing shows happening in the area and kick off your weekend right with live music.

Vinyl Bay 777, Long Island’s music outlet, loves live music. That’s why we’ve once again searched the internet for the hottest shows happening in New York this weekend. Here are nine that we think will be worth heading out to the city for and spending your hard-earned money.
1.       Circa Survive & Thrice: Early 2000s hardcore bands Circa Survive and Thrice have teamed up for a power-packed fall tour. Circa Survive released their sixth album, ‘The Amulet,’ in September, while Thrice released their ninth album, ‘To Be Everywhere Is to Be Nowhere,’ last year. Joining them on this leg of the tour is one of the hottest new(ish) bands of the “emo” revival, Balance and Composure. (Friday, Terminal 5)
2.       Silversun Pickups: Nearing the end of a two-year promotional cycle for 2015’s ‘Better Nature,’ indie-rockers Silversun Pickups recently released an EP featuring remixes of a few of the album’s songs. After touring over the summer opening for Third Eye Blind, the band heads out on their own headlining tour with support from Minus the Bear, who released their new album, ‘Voids,’ in March. (Friday, Brooklyn Steel)
3.       The Jesus & Mary Chain: Known for their work in the 1980s and 1990s, alt-rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain reunited in 2007. However, it took them 10 more years to cement the reunion with a new album. ‘Damage and Joy,’ their album since 1999, was released this past March to rave reviews and a top 10 spot on the US independent albums chart. Catch the band tonight as they end the second half of their US tour in New York. (Friday, Playstation Theatre)
4.       HIM: After 26 years together, Finnish goth-rock band HIM are calling it a day. But before they go, they’re giving fans all over the world a proper goodbye with the ‘Bang and Whimper’ farewell world tour. The tour’s North American leg ends tonight with a show in New York. Following this show, HIM heads over to Europe for the rest of November and December, playing their final show on New Year’s Eve in their hometown of Helsinki, Finland. (Friday, Hammerstein Ballroom)
5.       King Crimson: After playing shows in Brooklyn and Long Island earlier this week, King Crimson will be concluding their week-long run of shows in New York this weekend with two shows in Manhattan. (Friday & Saturday, Beacon Theatre)
6.       Hot Water Music: Punk band Hot Water Music released their latest album, ‘Light It Up,’ in September. The band is now touring behind the album with Strike Anywhere and Big Jesus as support. (Saturday, Warsaw)

8.       Squeeze: 1980s UK new wave band Squeeze are back with a new album, ‘The Knowledge,’ released in October, and are currently in the US promoting it on their “Join the Dots” tour. If you can’t make this weekend’s show, the band will be back in the area at the end of the month, playing two shows in Port Chester on November 29 and 30, and one on Long Island on December 2. (Sunday, Beacon Theatre)
9.       IAmDynamite: Indie-rockers IAmDynamite will be playing two one-off shows in New York this weekend with Wild Adriatic, one in Albany and one in Manhattan. The band released their second album, ‘Wasa Tusa,’ in 2015. (Sunday, Rockwood Music Hall Stage 2)

Ten Live Shows to Check Out In New York This Weekend (March 31-April 2)
Tumblr media
New York has some of the best music in the country. Between its world-class venues that attract national tours big and small, and legendary local music scene, it is a great place to see live music.
This weekend will be no exception to this, as there are a plethora of amazing bands, artists and events coming our way over the next three days. Whether you are into today’s hot pop acts coming into their own or classic artists celebrating milestone anniversaries, EDM dance parties or punk mosh pits, there is something happening this weekend to suit your tastes.
Vinyl Bay 777 loves live music and wants to help you find the perfect live experience for your weekend concert-going pleasure. Here are 10 music events happening in New York that we think would be worthwhile to check out.
1.       Bebe Rexha: Rexha is wrapping up the North American leg of her first-ever solo headlining tour tonight with a second show at Warsaw in Brooklyn. The singer released her second EP, ‘All Your Fault: Pt. 1,’ in February and is gearing up to release part 2 in April. (Friday, Warsaw)
2.       Deadmau5: Following the release of his latest album, ‘W:/2016ALBUM/,’ late last year, Deadmau5 is now on tour behind it. The EDM DJ has already played two sold out shows at Hammerstein Ballroom and is coming back for two more sold out shows this weekend. (Friday and Saturday, Hammerstein Ballroom)
3.       'Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone' in Concert: If you enjoy the ‘Harry Potter’ franchise, than this will be a treat. Those in attendance will get to hear the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra play the entire musical score to ‘Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone’ while the film plays on the venue’s 40-foot screen. Such an immersive film experience is rare, so you might want to check this out, even for the cheap-seat price of $50. (Friday and Saturday, Radio  City Music Hall)
4.       Emo Night Brooklyn: If you remember the early 2000s “emo” and pop-punk boom, than you will enjoy Emo Night Brooklyn. Who wouldn’t want to attend a dance party (mosh pit?) with all their favorite tunes from high school? There are two events scheduled in the area this weekend: one on Friday at Asbury Park’s House of Independents and one on Saturday at Irving Plaza following the New Found Glory show. No special guests have been announced for Friday yet. (Friday, House of Independents; Saturday, Irving Plaza)
5.       New Found Glory: New Found Glory is celebrating its 20th anniversary as a band this year. The band played in New Jersey last weekend and now it is New York’s turn with two sold out shows at Irving Plaza this weekend. Saturday night, the band will be playing ‘Sticks and Stones’ and ‘Coming Home’ in their entirety, while ‘Catalyst’ and their self-titled album will get the same treatment on Sunday. Then, if that weren’t enough, Emo Night Brooklyn will be providing an after party on Saturday, spinning the best “emo” hits with special DJ sets from the band. (Saturday and Sunday, Irving Plaza)
6.       Shinobi Ninja: Brooklyn locals Shinobi Ninja will be rocking the stage at Knitting Factory once again this Saturday for a one-off show. Blending hip hop with hardcore, these guys are put on a pretty raucous live show that you don’t want to miss. The band released their fourth album, ‘Bless Up,’ earlier this month. (Saturday, Knitting Factory)
7.       moe. : Jam band moe. is currently on a short east coast spring tour that will be taking them our way this weekend.  If you can’t make this show though, you can still catch them this summer when they hit the Playstation Theater in NYC on July 21. moe. released their last album, ‘No Guts, No Glory,’ in 2014. (Saturday, The Paramount)
8.       'The History of Art, Crime, Drugs and Punk Rock on the Lower East Side': This isn’t exactly a concert, but if you enjoy the history of New York’s music scene, you need to check out this walking tour. The tour is given by Cro-Mags lead singer John Joseph, a native New Yorker and a veteran of the New York hardcore scene. This Sunday’s tour is the first of the season and the only one for the entire month of April, so you’ll want to get yourself a ticket.  (Sunday, Walking Tour)
9.       The Beach Boys: Celebrating 50 years of their landmark album ‘Pet Sounds,’ The Beach Boys (headed up by Mike Love and Bruce Johnson) will be bringing their anniversary tour to the NYCB Theater this Sunday for two shows, 3PM and 7PM. Expect to see an appearance from ‘Full House’ actor John Stamos as well, as it looks like he might be touring with the band yet again. (Sunday, NYCB Theater)
10.   Skinny Lister: If you like drunken party folk, than you should definitely check out British band Skinny Lister while they are in the Tri-State area. Tonight and Saturday, they will be supporting Flogging Molly in Atlantic City and Rochester, respectively. Then on Sunday, the band headlines Mercury Lounge. The band released their third album, ‘The Devil, The Heart and the Fight,’ last year. (Sunday, Mercury Lounge)
These are our top picks for live shows in New York this weekend. As New York is filled with amazing musical talent playing out every night, let this list be a starting point when looking to make your weekend concert-going plans.
